Rotary Evaporator

Aug. 29, 2023

Rotary evaporator is an evaporation instrument widely used in laboratories. It consists of a motor, a distillation bottle, a heating pot, a condenser tube, etc. It is mainly used for continuous distillation of volatile solvents under reduced pressure conditions. It is used in chemistry, chemical industry , biomedicine and other fields.

Introduction:

10L rotary evaporator with hand lift

Rotary evaporators can be used to recover and evaporate organic solvents. It uses a motor to drive the retort to rotate. Since the still is constantly rotating, zeolite can be dispensed with without bumping. At the same time, due to the continuous rotation, the liquid is attached to the wall of the distiller, forming a liquid film, which increases the evaporation area and accelerates the evaporation rate.

Structural Principles:

The distillation flask is an eggplant-shaped or round-bottomed flask with a standard ground mouth interface, which is connected to a decompression pump through a high reflux serpentine condenser, and the other opening of the reflux condenser is connected to a receiving flask with a ground mouth for use. Receive evaporated organic solvent. There is a three-way piston between the condenser tube and the decompression pump. When the system is connected to the atmosphere, the distillation flask and the liquid-contacting flask can be removed to transfer the solvent. When the system is connected to the decompression pump, the system should be in a reduced state. pressure state. When in use, the pressure should be decompressed first, and then the motor should be turned on to rotate the distillation flask. When it is over, it should be stopped first and then vented to the atmosphere to prevent the distillation flask from falling off during rotation. As a heat source for distillation, it is often equipped with a corresponding constant temperature water tank.

The main components:

1. Rotary motor: the evaporating flask containing the sample is driven by the rotation of the motor.

2. Evaporation tube: the evaporation tube has two functions, firstly, it plays the role of the sample rotation support shaft, and secondly, through the evaporation tube, the vacuum system sucks the sample out

3. Vacuum system: used to reduce the air pressure of the rotary evaporator system

4. Fluid heating pot:usually heating the sample with water;

5. Condenser tube: use double serpentine condenser or other condensing agents such as dry ice and acetone to condense samples

6. Condensate the sample collection bottle, and the sample enters the collection bottle after cooling.
